SIC Summer Orientation Moves Online
HARRISBURG, Ill. (June 5, 2020) – Southeastern Illinois College will host summer semester Orientation online via Zoom in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. All courses will be held online for the summer 2020 semester.
This orientation is meant to provide students with a better understanding and familiarization with our online learning system. SIC stresses emphasis on taking the online orientation sessions, no matter the number of semesters under one’s belt. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, courses traditionally offered in a classroom setting have been moved to an online format. As class offerings have adapted to the sudden change, students will follow in pursuit. The online orientations provide the pathway for such adaptation.
Orientations are typically an hour and hosted over five different occasions over a span of three days starting June 8. Monday, June 8, will host two events, the first starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 11 a.m. and the second orientation starting at 2 p.m. and ending at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, will look similar to Monday with the first session lasting from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the second session running from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The final day of orientation events, Wednesday will host an earlier morning session only from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
“Under normal circumstances, our orientations for online courses are held face-to-face,” explains Benjamin Ross, SIC Distance Learning Specialist. “However, in light of recent events, we have decided to keep these sessions live online through Zoom. Our Online Learning Education and Technology department has been working hard and strives to remain innovative and versatile in supporting our students with technical course support, tutoring and library-related services.”
