Election Dates and Terms

Elections are held in April of odd-numbered years, with trustees serving staggered six-year terms.

December 14-21, 2020

Period for filing nominating petitions with the local election office.  The deadline to file is December 21, 2020.  The office will remain open until 5:00 pm.  The office is located in the Administration Building, President's Office, upper floor.

January 4, 2021

Simultaneous Petition Filing Public Lottery to be held at 10 a.m. at the Local Official's Office, located in the Administration Building, President's Office, upper floor. Per Illinois Statutes, in the event two or more petitions of candidacy are simultaneously filed for the same office, the order of filing will be determined by means of a lottery approved by the State Board of Elections.  A public lottery is to be held within nine days after the last day of the petition-filing period and is open to the public. In the event that multiple candidates file for the office of Board of Trustee Member at 8:00 a.m. on the first day of filing, Monday, December 14, 2020, or during the last hour (between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.) on the last day of filing, Monday, December 21, 2020, a Simultaneous Petition Filing Public Lottery will be conducted.

January 6, 2021

Petition Objection Filing Deadline. The State Election Code sets forth that objections to candidate nomination papers may be filed within five “business days” following the last day of the candidate petition filing period.  For the April 2021 election, the candidate petition filing period ends on December 21, 2020.  Due to the Christmas holiday and the local election official’s office closures on December 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30,31 2018, and January 1, 2021, the objection filing period deadline is January 6, 2021, at 5:00 p.m.

April 6, 2021

Election of community college trustees at the consolidated election.

May 4, 2021

The last day for community college boards to conduct organizational meetings and seat trustees elected on April 6th.

Candidate Qualifications

If you are 18 or older, a citizen of the United States, and have lived in your community college district for at least one year, then you can seek a board seat in your home district. The only other qualification is an honest commitment to the community college mission: that is, a belief that Southeastern Illinois College enhances lifelong learning by providing quality accessible educational programs, cultural enrichment opportunities, and support for economic development.

Election Judges are needed

To serve as an Election Judge, you must be at least 16 years old and declare your party affiliation.  Call the Saline County Clerk's office at 618-253-3028 for more information.
