Choral and Band Events
Whether you have previous choir experience or just love to sing, we are always looking for new voices! The SIC Concert Choir and the SIC Community Chorus hold several performances each year in the George T. Dennis Visual & Performing Art Center. Additionally, there are a number of opportunities to perform in musicals either onstage or in the pit, or you can participate in the SIC Concert Band. Private vocal and instrumental instruction are also available.
SIC Concert Choir
The SIC Concert Choir offers students a chance to perform a wide range of repertoire from a variety of time periods and genres. All students interested in vocal music are encouraged to join. No audition is necessary, and college credit can be earned. The choir rehearses on Thursday’s from 3-4:50 p.m. in the fall and spring semesters.
SIC Community Chorus
The SIC Community Chorus is comprised of volunteers from all over southern Illinois. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. in room F110 at SIC in Harrisburg, and it is open to singers of high school age and up. The Community Choir performs one concert each fall and spring semester, as well as a performance at May commencement exercises and occasional special performances, as well. New members are encouraged to join early each semester (August or January) by attending a rehearsal. No audition is required. You can also find them on Facebook.
SIC Community jazz Band
Open to students and community members age 16 and up, the SIC Community Jazz Band welcomes all instruments and skill levels. Rehearsals are held Monday evenings on campus and include opportunities to perform in concerts throughout the semester. Directed by Brandon Bryant, this group is fun, free to join, and focused on learning, collaboration, and community.
The band is under the direction of Mr. Brandon Bryant. The SIC Concert Band rehearses on Mondays from 7:00 - 8:50 p.m. You can also find them on Facebook.

AHA BLS/CPR Instructor Course
Dates: Saturday, Jan. 24 and Saturday, Jan. 31
Time: 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Location: SIC Campus, Room T224
SIC will host an American Heart Association BLS/CPR Instructor course this January. This two-day training prepares participants to teach AHA Basic Life Support classes and certify others in life-saving CPR skills.

AARP Defensive Driving Course
When:
Thursday and Friday, Dec. 11–12, 2025

Details:
An AARP-certified instructor will offer a two-day, in-person AARP defensive driving course at SIC on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 11–12, from 8 a.m. to noon each day. This refresher course is designed especially for drivers age 50 and older who want to sharpen their driving skills and learn about current rules of the road.
There is no cost for the class itself, but an AARP course fee will be paid directly to the instructor at the time of the class:

SIU-C Representative on Campus
An SIU-C representative will be on campus in A/B lobby from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. for students planning to transfer to SIU.
Falcons FOG plays in NACE championship match!
Join us online or in person as the SIC Falcons Faction of Gamers Varsity E-Sports team competes in the National Association of College Esports Championship match against Marshall University Thundering Herd in Call of Duty Black Ops 6! Go Falcons! The game will be streaming on Twitch and may also be streaming on their new YouTube channel.
GEC High School Basketball Tournament 2026
The dates for the 2026 Greater Egyptian Conference High School tournament are Jan. 26-31.
DramaCon – High School
Students get a preview of Blithe Spirit and enjoy sessions about all things theatre! Invitations are sent to the schools.
SIC Children's Choir
The SIC Children’s Choir is a joyful opportunity for students in grades 3–8 who love to sing! Directed by Hannah Nance — a Harrisburg High School teacher, award-winning speech coach, and music director for Jr. Falcon Productions — this ensemble focuses on learning music in a fun, welcoming environment.
Rehearsals take place Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the SIC campus during the fall and spring semesters. Students build vocal skills, confidence, and friendships, all while preparing for a concert performance at the end of each season.
